Library Noticeboard

Lush green landscape with trees and story panies in a park, set against a backdrop of a large, rugged mountain under a cloudy sky.
Kia ora, Kingston Storywalk®!
We’re stoked to share that our latest StoryWalk has been set up in Kingston, bringing books outdoors to our rural community! With tamariki literacy rates on the decline (RNZ, 2024), it’s more important than ever that libraries go beyond our walls and meet people where they are!

What are StoryWalks®?
StoryWalks® display an illustrated children’s book page by page in a public outdoor area. They’re a great family activity, encouraging literacy and time spent outdoors. They are looked after by Queenstown Lakes Libraries and stories are changed regularly, often to match the stories with seasonal themes or celebrations.

StoryWalk® locations in the Queenstown Lakes District
  • Hanley’s Farm Playground, 45 Jack Hanley Drive, Kawerau Falls 9371
  • Kingston Public Park & Playground, 176 Kent St, Kingston 9793
  • Luggate, Hopkins Street Playground, 36 Hopkins St, Luggate 9383
  • Makarora Primary School, 31 Rata Road, Makarora 9382
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson in 2007 and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier Vermont. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

We would like to thank Scholastic Publishers for granting us permission to display their titles and supporting our StoryWalk®.
