New eResources

We have just expanded our eResource collection with the following new databases. All you need to access them is a library card and your pin/password.

Carter's Price Guide to Antiques provides price guides on art antiquities, antiques, collectables, retro, vintage and 20th century design for 32 years, and include prices on items from 1500 BC to the present day, with a price range of $5 to over one million dollars.

Underground and Independent Comics, Comix, and Graphic Novels is the first-ever scholarly online collection for researchers and students of adult comic books and graphic novels. This multi-part resource covers the full spectrum of this visual art form, from pre-comics code era works to modern sequential releases from artists the world over. We have subscribed to Volume II which adds extensive coverage of the pre-Comics Code era horror, crime, romance, and war comics that fuelled the backlash leading to one of the largest censorship campaigns in US history. Please note that this is not a resource for children as some of the content contains adult themes and parental supervision is required.

The ProQuest LGBT Magazine Archive features archival runs of many of the most influential, longest-running serial publications covering LGBT interests. Includes the pre-eminent US and UK titles – The Advocate and Gay Times, respectively. Chronicles more than six decades of the history and culture of the LGBT community. In addition to LGBT/gender/sexuality studies, this material also serves related disciplines such as sociology, political science, psychology, health, and the arts. Some publications may contain explicit content.

Bloomsbury / ABC-CLIO provides original and exciting research databases to inspire life-long learning for today’s students and scholars. We have four databases from this collection:

Tezuka Osamu Manga Digital Library features Osamu Tezuka's manga collection. Osamu Tezuka (1928-1989), the ‘God of Manga’ was a manga author and creator of many of the first Japanese animation. While Tezuka’s best known creation is, arguably, the world-renowned children’s series Astro Boy, he drew more than 150,000 pages of manga in his lifetime - touching on every style and genre. He wrote for every age-group, from young children to mature audiences, and single-handedly created the majority of the genres and character-types we see in manga and anime today. The collection is available in eight languages (English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Traditional Chinese). Please note that several publications within this collection contain adult themes and parental monitoring is strongly advised if children are using this resource.

Meet Librarian Eve

Meet Librarian Eve. Eve’s in charge of Adult Services at Wānaka Library.

She's the wonderful person behind some of the great programmes on offer in the Upper Clutha.

How long have you been with the library?
I’ve been with QLDC libraries for almost 10 years, my first library role and such an incredible learning journey. It’s been a blast and I love the variety library work offers, I get to connect with the community, talk about books and create events for our community to enjoy. Libraries have always been a part in my life from visiting with my parents as a child & discovering wonderful stories to escape into and then as a parent taking my children to the library where a love of reading and seeking knowledge was developed.

What were you doing prior to joining our library team?
My work history is a little varied and includes working as a nanny & preschool teacher, stay-at-home mum and working at YouthLine after the Christchurch Earthquakes.

What are libraries to you?
To me libraries are a place of Community and connection I have always felt welcome in a library. You don’t need a reason to visit a library but once you do you find a whole lot of reasons to come back.

What do you enjoy reading?
I enjoy reading a range of genres but I am usually drawn to mysteries, thrillers, historical novels and contemporary fiction.
