Oops!

Due to a wee glitch in our email system, a few of you received some old Library newsletter and other emails in the early hours of this morning. We wanted to apologise for these unexpected emails! 

Ice Scrapers & Cloths are back

Next time you're in the library, make sure you grab a free ice scraper and cloth for those frosty mornings!

Matariki Closures 

All libraries will be closed on Friday 28 June to observe the Matariki public holiday. We will re-open on Saturday 29 June per our usual operating hours.

Please Stay Home if you are Unwell

With the recent rise in illness in the community, we politely ask that if you are feeling unwell, please avoid the library. We'd like to keep our staff and patrons safe from illness as much as possible.
 
If you need some new books, we have a 'Click and Collect' or a 'Home Delivery' service available for some libraries.

Kingston Library Power Interruptions

While the library will be open, there may be some power outages affecting Kingston on the below dates:
  • Wednesday 12 June between 3pm - 3.30pm
  • Wednesday 19 June between 3pm - 3.30pm
Frankton Library Construction
Due to some building works at Frankton Library there may be some intermittent noise disruptions. During this period the library meeting room will be closed to the public from Tuesday 11 June; and building works are scheduled to commence on Monday 17 June. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience.

New Library Website

We are thrilled to announce that we will soon be launching our new library website!
 
Here's a sneak peek of the new homepage which features our new colour palette; you will notice these colours popping up through our posters and social media in the coming months.
 
We can't wait to officially launch the site - keep an eye on your inboxes for the big day!

Individuals can access opportunities via givME, which provides a search tool for those seeking to pursue a career change, study, sporting activities, cultural, and arts projects. And communities, volunteer organisations, schools, and sports clubs can be matched with funding and support via givUS.

Our annual Winter Reading Challenge has begun!

This Matariki, join us at Queenstown Library for a talk featuring special guests including local astrophysicist and Nobel Prize winner, Brian Boyle. Originally from Scotland, Professor Boyle relocated to New Zealand from Australia in 2019. He built a backyard observatory at his home in Dalefield and aims to teach others how to photograph the night sky. More information to come!
Join artist Eric Lim on Thursday 13 June in a Chinese Calligraphy Workshop, where he will guide you through a fun learning process of Chinese calligraphy techniques.
Discover the art of journalling with Rachel O’Boyle from ‘A Mindful Life’ at Frankton Library on Saturday 22 June for Journalling 101.
Join us in celebrating Worldwide Knit in Public Day at Wānaka Library with the Wānaka Woolcrafters on Saturday 8 June.
Unleash your creativity at our MASKed - Cardboard Mask Workshop! Spend an enchanting afternoon transforming plain cardboard into extraordinary masks that reflect your unique personality and imagination.
 
Join one or both sessions (we have one on Saturday 8 June and 15 June)
Develop a money mindset & improve financial literacy during our Cashflow game sessions, led by Joel Hillary. Gain valuable insight as Joel shares real life examples while you play. Sessions are open to Year 11 students up to adults.

Arrowtown Library now have weekly Digital Help Appointments available on Thursdays by appointment.

Glenorchy Library have Digital Help Sessions monthly, on the last Wednesday of the month.

Hāwea Library have Digital Help Sessions weekly, on Wednesdays.

Kingston Library have Digital Help Sessions monthly, on the second Wednesday of the month.

Digital Help Appointments are always available by appointment in Queenstown.

Wānaka Library have Digital Help Sessions weekly, on Thursdays.

Children & Youth Programmes

We have a few programming updates for our Children's programming:
 
Arrowtown
  • Wriggle & Rhyme is paused until further notice;
  • Preschool Storytime is paused until further notice;
  • Reading to Dogs will resume on Tuesday 11 June;
  • Video Games and LEGO® Clubs are still on as per the usual schedule.
Frankton
  • Pages & Purrs is cancelled for the remainder of Term 2.
Kingston
  • Wriggle & Rhyme is starting up on 3 July with sessions on the first Wednesday of the month (during term time).
Matariki Storytime is on at the following branches:

Our regular children's programmes are on during term time. Join us for Pages & Purrs, Reading to Dogs, Wriggle & Rhyme, LEGO® Club, Storytime, STEAM Club and more! Check out the What's On page of the website or as your local librarians for details.

Community Billboard

Sustainable Queenstown are proud to partner with Wastebusters to bring you the Low Waste Living Series of workshops! This time we have 2 unique workshops: Family Edition and Kitchen Edition. The Kitchen edition is also our June Green Drinks event, so get in quick! 

There will be tips on local shopping guides, recycling 101, shopping swaps and demos of low waste recipes, homemade chemical free cleaners, building your own reusable kits, and more! The workshops are designed to meet you where you are and inspire you to make manageable changes to reduce the amount of waste in your household.
