Borrow: Outdoor exploration kits

Did you know you can borrow outdoor exploration kits from the library? 
We currently have Stargazing kits, Birdwatching kits, and Litter-picking kits available. These kits are an engaging way of exploring the outdoors with your family. They're also great if you're thinking about purchasing something similar and want to 'try before you buy'.
 
Please note that only permanent adult library members are able to borrow these kits. You must collect Karawhiua items from their home library and return them to that library, not to another library or a drop-box. The full borrowing conditions are available on our website.

Getting our facts straight with digital research tools
In this month's Digital Resource spotlight, let's explore online tools that help us conduct high-quality research and get our facts straight. These tools are available to Queentown Lakes library members. Simply log in with your library card number and pin/password.
Gale databases offers people of all ages a comprehensive, high quality way of finding information and conducting research on a wide range of topics.

Britannica Library is a dynamic, continuously updated, rigorously fact-checked information source for students, teachers, and lifelong learners.
We have three levels of Britannica Library available: Britannica Library Adults (geared towards those in senior secondary or pursuing further education), Britannica Library Teens ( to inspire curiosity, stimulate discussion and encourage independent research), and Britannica Library Kids (a colourful and easy-to-use interactive version of the Encyclopaedia Britannica).

We review our digital resource subscriptions on an annual basis to make sure we're providing the best possible service to library members.
This means we sometimes change our offering, including add new subscriptions, change our subscription packages, or stop subscriptions altogether. Thank you to everyone who fed back on our digital resources in the survey we conducted a couple of months ago. 
These are the changes we'll be making from 1 July 2026:
  • We're excited to be trialling biblio+ (a tv and film streaming service with some excellent BBC content), as well as a new NZ Geographic package. We'll give you the full details in our July newsletter.
  • We're changing our online Bridget Williams Books subscription (we will continue subscribing to the Treaty of Waitangi Collection and the New Zealand History Collection). 
  • We will be saying goodbye to MyHeritage Library Edition.
  • We are changing our subscription to Gale Databases (our package will continue to provide access to General OneFile, Australia and New Zealand, News, Global Issues, and National Geographic Kids).

OYLA Junior is entirely ad-free.
